First Day - New School

August 22, 2011

The first day of school for all of my kids. I have a Kindergartener, a First Grader, a Second Grader and a Fifth Grader! Phew. We have also left our local public school and are attending a Charter School, which is closer to our school. Proximity really had nothing to do with our move, but more so some learning challenges/issues with a few of the kids.

It was 7:30am and already the sun was brightly shining.

Tillie with her teacher.

Madison waiting.

Mason waiting at his "office" (that's what they called their individual learning stations, aka desks).

This little stinker, not wanting to cooperate!

That face!
Love this kid.
Well, I do love all of them.
But this one is my BABY!!
And he started Kindergarten!
WAAAAHH

Teacher Gifts - First Day of School

You may recall last year's post, Teacher Bribes, when I shared my cute teacher gifts for the first day of school. It's no secret that I want to give my kids every advantage and will even resort to bribing, if necessary.

I think I might have outdone myself this year. It's a combination of a few things I have seen here and there, plus a few projects I want to add to my shop, so without further ado. . .I present the 2011-2012 First Day of School Teacher Gifts

And, yes, I am missing one. . .but Mason's teacher is a man (yikes) and I'm just not sure I'm feelin' a crafty gift for him. Thoughts?

End of School - more events

Yeah, school ended at noon on Wednesday, June 1. Here is the rest of the event photos from their awards and graduation.

Here is Madison, the Principal and her teacher.

Everyone looking at their awards

This picture is for Pop - and is supposed to show her missing tooth; a tooth which held on by one thread of a cell for weeks! She will not pull her loose teeth, at all. This was actually got knocked out at her swimming party a few days before!

Tillie in "procession" to graduation.

Waiting for her name to be called.

Treat for Teachers

I sent my kids to school on Thursday with a little treat for their teachers. You may remember my "theory" from the first day of school which is to try to "sweeten up" (er, bribe, brown-nose) the teachers just a bit so they think extra kindly about the kids.

Back to School!

The day we've all been waiting for (well I've been waiting for it and Madison has been ready since July).  Everyone woke up happy and excited. The first day of school has finally arrived.

I see a trend developing here with Mason's lack of posing and smiling!

She's always ready to strike a pose and flash a smile.

The bell rang while we were dropping off here so Madison was in a hurry to go in and would only stand for a quick picture! Heaven forbid she be TARDY!

Teacher Bribes, er. . .Gifts

If you've followed me for a while, you will remember that I made some "First Day of School" gifts for the teachers last year. This year, I came across this adorable blog I have been following and copied the idea from there. Click to see the original.

Meet the Teacher Night

Matilda wrestling with her bag of school supplies

With Mrs. Hargrove

Madison at her locker. . .seriously, a locker in 2nd grade? Give me a break!

With Mrs. Cunningham

I guess is was absolute torture for Mason to pose for a photo here. He would barely look at the camera, let alone give me a decent smile! Ugh. Boys!

I also did not get a photo with his teacher as I was too busy grilling her on her teaching experience (she is super-young) and lack of room decorations. Turns out she was just hired on Monday (as in 2 days ago) and this is only her 3rd year teaching. I plan on making something extra nice for her on Monday since I might have been a little "overbearing" at our first meeting. I actually ran into one of Mason's past teachers and she assured me the new "girl" was "great".

Kids Gifts

If you're a parent like me, then one of the best things about Christmas time is the homemade "gifts" your kids present you with. This is the haul from Madox and Tillie's preschool, which ended today for the year.

Gift bag for Daddy, Reindeer made from a handprint. Pretty cute.

Gift bag for Mom, handprint Santa. Adorable.

Tree Ornament

Picture frame. Have I mentioned lately that I LOVE her FACE.

Madox's glittering handiwork.

And his ornament.

Inside the Actor's Studio

. . .with Mason.

The 3rd graders put on these little skits of plays they wrote themselves. They also did all of the props and costumes. It was cute - you couldn't hear anything they said, but it was still fun to see your child "on stage".

His character, Santa, fires one of the elves, his friend, Hunter.

Intently studying his next lines. He ends up hiring the elf back (?)

The end - this is supposed to be their bow.

Layers of the Earth - in Cake

This was a 3rd grade project; to demonstrate the layers of the earth using an edible medium. Pretty sure I never did this in 3rd grade!

Madox and Tillie go to School

Here they are on their first day of preschool. Actually, Matilda went to pre-K last year but they didn't have a spot for Madox at that school (probably because I did not register him when I was supposed to because he is my baby and I didn't really want him to go to preschool yet, but that is a whole 'nother subject) so they both are going to another school that had room in the 4 year old class and the 3 year old class.

Madox insisted on this picture so I could see his "McQueen" backpack.

I picked them up a little early on the first day and they were still playing in the gym. I made them pose for just one more picture.

Side Note

I have gotten a new computer and I'm still trying to figure out how to use all of it's functions. Sorry this is not a better set of posts.

Meet the Teacher

Just a quick post here of Meet the Teacher from last night.

Here is Madison at her 1st Grade desk. (wah! - wiping away tears) Mrs. Copeland was talking with another parent and didn't pose with Madison.

And big Mason with Mrs. Brown, his 3rd grade teacher.

They both have quite a few friends from the prior year in their classes, so it should be smooth sailing on Monday. . .if only mom can get up that early!

More pictures then.
