Mason makes Bobcat

Last year was technically Mason's first year of Cub Scouting. Unfortunately, the school was new and therefore the pack and den were new as well. Meetings were inconsistent and events were non-existent. Anyway, over the summer, we met some great neighbors who just happened to be plugged into a really active and large pack and they invited Mason to join them. Last night was the first meeting of the 2008-09 school year and Mason was officially made a "Bobcat."

There was a really neat ceremony where the boys' faces were pained: blue across the forehead, yellow under the eyes, white along the nose and blue on the chin. Each color symbolizes a character trait or accomplishment necessary to be a Bobcat. The mom's nose was also painted with white to symbolize love for her son.

I am not usually all that "into" the symbolism and ceremony of things, but I have to admit I really loved this one. It is something he will definitely remember, and so will I.
